Ali Qushji

Ali Qushji, born in the year fourteen hundred and three, was a prominent figure in the realms of mathematics, astronomy, and physics. His journey began in the Timurid Empire, where he honed his skills and knowledge under the tutelage of the renowned Ulugh Beg. His intellectual pursuits led him to the Ottoman Empire, where he made significant contributions to the scientific community before the year fourteen seventy-two.

As a disciple of Ulugh Beg, Qushji distinguished himself through his groundbreaking work in astronomical physics, which he approached independently from the prevailing natural philosophy of his time. His treatise, titled 'Concerning the Supposed Dependence of Astronomy upon Philosophy,' provided empirical evidence supporting the Earth's rotation, a revolutionary concept that challenged existing beliefs.

In addition to his theoretical contributions, Ali Qushji played a vital role in the development of Ulugh Beg's esteemed work, the Zij-i-Sultani. He was instrumental in establishing the Sahn-ı Seman Medrese, one of the earliest centers dedicated to the study of traditional Islamic sciences within the Ottoman Empire. His legacy is further enriched by his authorship of several scientific works and textbooks that continue to influence the field of astronomy.
