Alistair Carmichael, born on July fifteenth, nineteen sixty-five, is a prominent British politician who has represented the Orkney and Shetland constituency as a Member of Parliament since two thousand one. A dedicated member of the Liberal Democrats, he has played a significant role in various capacities within the UK government.
During the Cameron–Clegg coalition, Carmichael served as the Secretary of State for Scotland from October two thousand thirteen to May two thousand fifteen. His political journey also includes a tenure as Deputy Government Chief Whip from two thousand ten to two thousand thirteen, and he was the Chief Whip of the House of Commons for two terms, first from two thousand ten to two thousand thirteen and again from two thousand seventeen to two thousand twenty.
