Alix of France

Alix of France, born in 1150, was a prominent figure in the political landscape of her time, serving as the countess of Blois through her marriage to Theobald V of Blois. Her role extended beyond that of a noblewoman; she became a regent during Theobald's absence in the years 1190 to 1191, and again during the minority of their son Louis from 1191 until 1197.

As the daughter of the illustrious Eleanor of Aquitaine and Louis VII of France, Alix was the second child and daughter in her family. Named after her aunt Petronilla, her birth was a disappointment to her parents, who were in desperate need of a son. This disappointment contributed to the eventual annulment of Eleanor and Louis's marriage on March twenty-first, 1152, when Alix was not yet two years old. Following the annulment, custody of Alix and her sister Marie was granted to the king, and Eleanor remarried just weeks later.

At the age of fourteen, Alix entered into a marriage with Theobald, who had previously attempted to abduct her mother. This union was significant, as her sister Marie also married into the family, becoming the wife of Theobald's brother, Henry I, Count of Champagne. Together, Alix and Theobald had seven children, including Louis I, Count of Blois, and Margaret, Countess of Blois, who would go on to marry notable figures in her own right.

Alix's life came to a close in the years 1197 or 1198, marking the end of a significant chapter in the history of Blois and the legacy of her remarkable lineage.
