Almighty Voice

Almighty Voice, born on January 1, 1874, was a notable member of the One Arrow Willow Cree community. His life was marked by a fierce spirit and a determination that would ultimately lead him into a prolonged conflict with the authorities.

Best known for his remarkable evasion of the North-West Mounted Police, Almighty Voice managed to elude capture for over nineteen months. This period of flight was characterized by his resourcefulness and resilience, as he navigated the challenges of being a fugitive in a rapidly changing world.

The culmination of his defiance came in May of 1897, when he faced off against the police in a standoff that would seal his fate. His death during this confrontation not only marked the end of his struggle but also highlighted the tensions between Indigenous peoples and colonial authorities during that era.
