Álvaro Arzú

Álvaro Arzú, born on March fourteenth, nineteen forty-six, was a prominent Guatemalan entrepreneur and politician. He made significant contributions to the political landscape of Guatemala, serving as the forty-fourth president from nineteen ninety-six to two thousand. His presidency is notably marked by the signing of a peace accord with the Guatemalan National Revolutionary Unity, which effectively brought an end to the country's thirty-six-year-long civil war.

In addition to his presidential role, Arzú was a dedicated public servant, having been elected Mayor of Guatemala City on six occasions. His political journey began in nineteen eighty-two, although he declined to take office due to a coup d'état. He later served as mayor in nineteen eighty-six, and after his presidential term, he returned to the position in two thousand three, continuing to serve in subsequent terms in two thousand seven, two thousand eleven, and two thousand fifteen.
