Alvin Karpis, born on August tenth, nineteen oh seven, was a notorious Canadian-American criminal of Lithuanian descent. He gained infamy as a leader of the Barker-Karpis Gang during the tumultuous 1930s, a period marked by rampant crime and the rise of infamous gangsters in the United States.
Known by the chilling nickname "Creepy" due to his sinister smile, Karpis was also affectionately referred to as "Ray" by his gang members. He led the gang alongside Fred Barker and Arthur "Doc" Barker, orchestrating a series of high-profile crimes that captured the attention of law enforcement and the public alike.
Among the few criminals to be designated as a "Public Enemy #1" by the FBI, Karpis holds the unique distinction of being the only one of the four notorious figures—alongside John Dillinger, Pretty Boy Floyd, and Baby Face Nelson—to be captured alive. His criminal exploits ultimately led to a lengthy incarceration, as he spent an astonishing twenty-six years as a federal prisoner at Alcatraz Federal Penitentiary, a testament to his significant impact on American crime history.
