Amatoritsero Ede, a Nigerian-Canadian poet, has made significant contributions to the literary world while navigating complex cultural landscapes. Originally known as Godwin Ede, he chose to abandon his Christian first name as a form of protest against the xenophobia and racism he encountered in Germany, a country he viewed as emblematic of Western colonialism.
Since relocating to Canada in two thousand two, Ede has been recognized as a writer-in-exile, sponsored by PEN Canada. His diverse experiences include serving as a Hindu Monk within the Hare Krishna Movement and working as a Book Editor for Spectrum Books, a prominent Nigerian trade publisher.
In addition to his editorial roles, Ede is the publisher and managing editor of the Maple Tree Literary Supplement (MTLS). He previously edited the international online poetry journal, Sentinel Poetry Online, from two thousand five to two thousand seven. His academic pursuits culminated in a PhD from Carleton University in two thousand thirteen, where his thesis explored the dynamics of the global literary canon and its impact on minor African literatures.
Ede's educational background includes a BA and MA in Postcolonial Anglophone Literatures and German Linguistics from the University of Hanover, Germany. His tenure as the Writer-in-Residence at Carleton University from two thousand five to two thousand six further solidified his role in the literary community, supported by PEN Canada's Writer-in-Exile network.
