Personal Facts, Age, Height and Biography of Amir Peretz

Amir Peretz, born on March ninth, nineteen fifty-two, is a prominent Israeli politician and trade unionist. His political journey began after serving five years as the mayor of Sderot, when he became a member of the Knesset for the Labor Party in nineteen eighty-eight. Peretz's tenure in the Knesset spanned over three decades, during which he held various significant positions, including Minister of Defence, Minister of Economy, and Minister of Environmental Protection.

In nineteen ninety-nine, he took a bold step by leaving the Labor Party to establish his own political entity, One Nation. He led this party until it merged back into Labor in two thousand four. The following year, Peretz made headlines by defeating Shimon Peres in a leadership election, subsequently becoming the Leader of the Opposition. His leadership coincided with critical events, including the 2006 Lebanon War, during which he served as Minister of Defense and played a pivotal role in the approval of the Iron Dome defense system.

After a series of political shifts, including a resignation from the Knesset in December two thousand twelve to join the new Hatnuah party, Peretz returned to the legislature after being re-elected in January two thousand thirteen. His time as Minister of Environmental Protection was marked by his resignation the following year due to disagreements over the government budget. In two thousand nineteen, he reclaimed the leadership of the Labor Party for a second time, only to be succeeded by Merav Michaeli on January twenty-four, twenty twenty-one.

In December twenty twenty, Peretz announced his candidacy for the presidency of Israel. He officially left the Knesset on January twenty-nine, twenty twenty-one, marking the end of an era in his long and impactful political career.
