Amr ibn Hisham

Amr ibn Hisham, known as Abu al-Hakam or 'Father of Wisdom', was a prominent leader of the Quraysh tribe in Mecca during the pre-Islamic era. He was a significant figure in the Makhzum clan and became notorious for his staunch opposition to the Islamic prophet Muhammad and the burgeoning faith of Islam.

As Muhammad began to preach monotheism, Amr's resistance intensified. He was known for his brutal tactics against early Muslims, including the persecution of notable converts such as Sumayya and Yasir ibn Amir. His cruel methods earned him the disdain of Muhammad, who referred to him as Abu Jahl, meaning 'Father of Ignorance', and Firawn al-Umma, or 'Pharaoh of the Nation'.

Following the migration of Muslims to Medina, Amr sought to rally a large army of polytheists to launch an attack on the city. This culminated in the Battle of Badr on the thirteenth of March in the year six hundred twenty-four, where he played a pivotal role as a leader. However, the battle proved disastrous for him, as he was fatally wounded by Mu'awwidh ibn Amr and Mu'ādh ibn 'Amr, ultimately meeting his end at the hands of Abd Allah ibn Masud.
