Amrit Kaur

Amrit Kaur, born on February second, eighteen eighty-nine, was a prominent Indian politician and activist who played a pivotal role in the Indian independence movement. Her dedication to the cause of freedom and social reform marked her as a significant figure in Indian history.

In 1947, following India's independence, Kaur made history by becoming the first and longest-serving Health Minister of India, a position she held until nineteen fifty-seven. During her tenure, she was also entrusted with the responsibilities of Sports Minister and Urban Development Minister, where she was instrumental in establishing the National Institute of Sports in Patiala.
