Amschel Mayer Rothschild

Personal Facts, Age, Height and Biography of Amschel Mayer Rothschild

Amschel Mayer Rothschild, born on June twelfth, seventeen seventy-three, was a distinguished banker from the renowned Rothschild family. As the second child and eldest son of Mayer Amschel Rothschild, the dynasty's founder, and Gutlé Rothschild, Amschel Mayer inherited a legacy that would shape the banking world.

Upon the passing of his father in eighteen twelve, Amschel Mayer took the helm of M. A. Rothschild & Söhne in Frankfurt. His brothers were strategically positioned in major cities across Europe, establishing banking houses in Paris, London, Naples, and Vienna, thereby expanding the family's influence in finance.

In eighteen seventeen, Amschel Mayer was honored with ennoblement by Francis II, Holy Roman Emperor, adopting the title Amschel Mayer von Rothschild. He further elevated his status by becoming a Freiherr, or baron, in eighteen twenty-two. Known for his close ties to Orthodox Jewish communities, he earned the affectionate title of 'the pious Rothschild' among Eastern European Jews.

Despite his significant contributions to the banking sector, Amschel Mayer died without children. Consequently, his nephews, Anselm, Mayer Carl, and Wilhelm Carl, took over the family business in eighteen fifty-five, ensuring the continuation of the Rothschild legacy.
