Anastasia Baburova, born on November thirtieth, nineteen eighty-three, in Sevastopol, Ukrainian SSR, was a dedicated journalist and activist known for her fearless pursuit of truth. A student of journalism at Moscow State University, she honed her skills at Novaya Gazeta, where her investigative work focused on the alarming rise of neo-Nazi groups in Russia.
As a member of Autonomous Action, Baburova was deeply committed to social justice and human rights. Her work often placed her in dangerous situations, yet she remained undeterred in her mission to expose hate and advocate for marginalized communities.
Tragically, her life was cut short when she was shot and killed alongside human rights lawyer Stanislav Markelov. Their untimely deaths highlighted the risks faced by those who dare to challenge oppressive systems and fight for justice.
