Andrea M. Ghez

Andrea M. Ghez, born on June sixteenth, nineteen sixty-five, is a distinguished American astrophysicist renowned for her groundbreaking research on the center of the Milky Way galaxy. As a professor in the Department of Physics and Astronomy at the University of California, Los Angeles, she holds the prestigious Lauren B. Leichtman & Arthur E. Levine chair in Astrophysics.

In recognition of her significant contributions to the field, Ghez was awarded the Nobel Prize in Physics in two thousand twenty, sharing this honor with Reinhard Genzel. Their collaborative work led to the discovery of a supermassive compact object at the heart of our galaxy, which is widely accepted to be a black hole.
