Andreas Metaxas

Andreas Metaxas, born in 1786, was a prominent Greek politician and diplomat hailing from Cephalonia. His contributions to the Greek War of Independence marked him as a significant figure in the nation's history. Metaxas's political career culminated in his role as Prime Minister of Greece from the third of September, eighteen forty-three, to the sixteenth of February, eighteen forty-four.

During the tumultuous times of the revolution, he earned the ironic nickname 'Conte Lalas' from military leaders, including the notable Makriyannis. This moniker was a nod to his injury sustained during the fierce Battle of Lalas, highlighting both his bravery and the challenges faced by those who fought for Greece's freedom.
