Andrée Lachapelle

Andrée Lachapelle, born on November thirteenth, nineteen thirty-one in Montreal, was a celebrated French Canadian actress whose career spanned several decades. At the tender age of fourteen, she began her artistic journey by training at the Studio XV theatre school under the guidance of Gerard Vleminckx. Following her training, she pursued a brief career in education, teaching elementary school before fully committing to her passion for acting.

In nineteen fifty-two, Andrée met fellow actor Robert Gadouas, with whom she shared both a personal and professional life, raising three children together until his untimely passing in nineteen sixty-nine. Throughout her illustrious career, she graced the stage in numerous plays by renowned playwrights such as Michel Tremblay, Samuel Beckett, and Tennessee Williams, and appeared in notable films including Rope Around the Neck, YUL 871, and Léolo.

Her contributions to the arts did not go unrecognized; in nineteen eighty-five, she was honored as an Officer of the Order of Canada, and in nineteen ninety, she received the Prix Guy-L'Écuyer for her performance in ...comme un voleur. Further accolades followed, including her investiture as a Knight of the National Order of Quebec in nineteen ninety-seven.

Andrée Lachapelle's life came to a close on November twenty-first, two thousand nineteen, when she chose assisted suicide after a courageous battle with cancer. Her legacy continued to shine posthumously as she was awarded the Prix Iris for Best Actress at the twenty-second Quebec Cinema Awards for her poignant final performance in And the Birds Rained Down.
