Andrei Rybakou, born on March 4, 1982, is a distinguished former weightlifter from Belarus, renowned for his remarkable achievements in the sport. Competing in the 85 kg category, he made a significant mark on the international weightlifting scene, earning the title of two-time World Champion and representing his country at the Olympic Games.
Rybakou's career, however, faced a significant setback in 2016 when a retest of his samples from the 2008 Olympic Games revealed the presence of banned substances, specifically Dehydrochloromethyl-testosterone and Stanozolol. This led to the disqualification of his performance at the Beijing Olympics, along with the annulment of his Olympic and World records established during that competition.
As a consequence of these findings, Rybakou was mandated to return his silver medal, a decision that underscored the strict regulations governing competitive weightlifting. Despite this controversy, his legacy as a talented athlete remains a significant part of Belarusian sports history.
