Andrew Byrnes

Andrew Byrnes, born on May twenty-second, nineteen eighty-three, is a distinguished Canadian rower and Olympic gold medallist. Hailing from Toronto, Ontario, he spent his formative years in Ithaca, New York. Byrnes pursued his passion for rowing at Bates College in Maine, where he graduated in two thousand five. He was an active member of the Bates Rowing Team and later earned a master's degree in engineering from the University of Pennsylvania in two thousand six.

Throughout his illustrious career, Byrnes has made a significant mark in the world of rowing, securing four medals at the World Rowing Championships. His achievements include a bronze medal in two thousand six in the men's coxed pair alongside teammates Derek O'Farrell and Brian Price. He continued to excel, winning a gold medal in two thousand seven, a silver in two thousand nine, and another bronze in two thousand eleven, all in the highly competitive men's eight category.

Byrnes' crowning achievement came at the two thousand eight Summer Olympics, where he clinched a gold medal in the men's eights. He was part of a formidable team that included Ben Rutledge, Kyle Hamilton, Malcolm Howard, Adam Kreek, Kevin Light, Dominic Sieterle, Jake Wetzel, and cox Brian Price. His Olympic journey continued in two thousand twelve, where he earned a silver medal in the men's eight, reuniting with several teammates from his gold medal-winning crew, including Malcolm Howard and Brian Price, along with new partners Gabriel Bergen, Jeremiah Brown, Will Crothers, Douglas Csima, Robert Gibson, and Conlin McCabe.
