Andrew Carnie, born on April nineteenth, nineteen sixty-nine, in Calgary, Alberta, is a distinguished Canadian linguist and anthropologist. He currently serves as a professor of linguistics at the University of Arizona, where he has made significant contributions to the field through his research and publications.

As an accomplished author and coauthor of nine books, Carnie's work primarily focuses on formal syntactic theory and the linguistic intricacies of Scottish Gaelic and Irish Gaelic. His expertise has earned him recognition, including being named Linguist of the Day by The Linguist List in two thousand nine.

Between two thousand ten and two thousand twelve, Carnie held the position of faculty director for the University of Arizona's Graduate Interdisciplinary Programs. His leadership skills were further recognized when he was appointed interim Dean of the graduate college in August two thousand twelve. From two thousand thirteen to two thousand twenty-two, he served as the Vice Provost for Graduate Education and Dean of the Graduate College, where he founded the University's Graduate Center and established the Graduate faculty.

During his tenure, Carnie significantly increased student diversity and advocated for improved working conditions and wages for graduate students.
