Andrew J. Feustel

Andrew J. Feustel, born on August 25, 1965, is a distinguished American-Canadian former NASA astronaut and accomplished geophysicist. His journey into the cosmos began when he was selected as an astronaut candidate by NASA in July 2000, following a successful career in geophysics.

Feustel's first venture into space occurred in May 2009 during the STS-125 mission, which lasted just under thirteen days. This significant mission marked the fifth and final servicing of the Hubble Space Telescope aboard the Space Shuttle Atlantis, where he showcased his skills by performing three spacewalks.

His second spaceflight, STS-134, launched on May 16, 2011, and was notable for delivering the Alpha Magnetic Spectrometer to the International Space Station (ISS). This mission was particularly historic as it was the final flight of the Space Shuttle Endeavour and the penultimate flight of the entire Space Shuttle program.

Feustel returned to the ISS on March 21, 2018, aboard Soyuz MS-08, where he served as a member of Expedition 55 and later took on the role of ISS Commander during Expedition 56. After his remarkable contributions to space exploration, he transitioned to a leadership role as the Deputy Chief of the NASA Astronaut Office in 2020, eventually serving as the acting Chief Astronaut starting in November 2022.

After an illustrious career, Andrew J. Feustel retired from NASA in July 2023, leaving behind a legacy of exploration and scientific achievement.
