Andrzej Szarmach

Andrzej Szarmach, born on October third, nineteen fifty, is a distinguished former Polish footballer who made his mark as a striker during Poland's golden age in the 1970s. Before the 1974 FIFA World Cup, he was relatively unknown, but he quickly rose to prominence as a key player for the national team. With a formidable attacking lineup that included Grzegorz Lato and Robert Gadocha, Szarmach thrived in the absence of Włodzimierz Lubański, contributing significantly to Poland's success in the tournament.

At the 1974 World Cup, Szarmach showcased his talent by scoring five goals, helping Poland secure the title of the best attacking team with a total of sixteen goals. His performance solidified his reputation, and he continued to shine at the 1976 Olympics in Montreal, where he not only won a silver medal but also earned the title of best player of the tournament with nine goals.

Known for his jowled face and moustache, Szarmach brought a unique flair to the pitch, which endeared him to fans at AJ Auxerre. Between nineteen eighty and nineteen eighty-five, he scored ninety-four goals, becoming a beloved figure in the Burgundian region. After a brief stint at Guingamp, he concluded his playing career with a total of thirty-two goals in sixty-one appearances for the Poland national team.
