Andy Milne, born on January twenty-nine, nineteen sixty-seven, is a distinguished Canadian jazz pianist and composer, renowned for his innovative contributions to the genre. Hailing from Hamilton, Ontario, he spent his formative years in Kincardine and Toronto, growing up in a large family as one of ten siblings. His passion for music led him to York University, where he had the privilege of studying under the legendary Oscar Peterson.
After graduating in nineteen ninety, Milne received a grant from the Canada Council, which allowed him to further his studies at the Banff Centre for the Fine Arts. It was during this time that he crossed paths with saxophonist Steve Coleman, ultimately joining Coleman's acclaimed band, Five Elements. In nineteen ninety-eight, he took a significant step in his career by forming his own ensemble, Cosmic Dapp Theory, which has since become a platform for his creative expression.
Throughout his career, Milne has collaborated with a variety of notable artists, including Ravi Coltrane, Grégoire Maret, Sean Rickman, and Ralph Alessi. His work has garnered critical acclaim, culminating in the release of his album, The Seasons of Being, in two thousand eighteen. This remarkable album earned him the prestigious Juno Award for Jazz Album of the Year – Group at the Juno Awards of two thousand nineteen, solidifying his status as a leading figure in contemporary jazz.
