Ang Rita Sherpa

Ang Rita Sherpa, born in 1948, is a legendary figure in the world of mountaineering, renowned for his extraordinary achievements on Mount Everest. Over the span of thirteen years, from 1983 to 1996, he ascended the world's highest peak a remarkable ten times, all without the aid of supplemental oxygen. This remarkable feat not only showcased his exceptional physical endurance but also his unparalleled skill as a climber.

His sixth ascent of Everest set a world record for the most successful climbs of the mountain, a record he further extended with his tenth climb. While many climbers have since reached the summit of Everest more times, Ang Rita remains the record holder for the most summits achieved without supplemental oxygen, a testament to his incredible capabilities and determination.

In addition to his impressive summits, Ang Rita made history as the first and, to date, the only individual to successfully climb Mount Everest in winter without supplemental oxygen.
