Ángel Di María, born on February 14, 1988, is an illustrious Argentine professional footballer renowned for his exceptional skills as a right winger. Currently playing for Rosario Central in the Argentine Primera División, he is celebrated as one of the greatest Argentine players and wingers of his generation. His remarkable dribbling, playmaking, rapid pace, and agility have earned him a place among football's elite, and he holds the record as the joint all-time top assist provider in the UEFA Champions League with forty-one assists.
Di María's football journey began at Rosario Central, but he gained prominence at Benfica after joining the club in two thousand seven at the age of nineteen. His contributions were pivotal in securing Benfica's first Primeira Liga title in five years, along with two Taça da Liga titles. In two thousand ten, he made a significant move to Real Madrid for a transfer fee of twenty-five million euros, where he celebrated a La Liga title in the 2011–12 season and a Champions League victory in 2013–14.
In 2014, Di María transferred to Manchester United in a then-British record deal worth fifty-nine point seven million pounds, but his stay was brief as he moved to Paris Saint-Germain the following year. During his tenure in France, he achieved remarkable success, winning five league titles, five Coupe de France, and four Coupe de la Ligue, including three domestic quadruples. He also played a crucial role in leading PSG to their first Champions League final in 2020, becoming the club's ninth-highest goalscorer and all-time leader in assists.
On the international stage, Di María debuted for Argentina in 2007, starting with the under-20 team, where he won the FIFA U-20 World Cup. He later scored the decisive goal in the 2008 Olympic final against Nigeria, securing Argentina's second consecutive Olympic gold medal. Making his senior debut in the same year, he has since earned one hundred forty-five caps, participating in four FIFA World Cups and helping Argentina clinch their third title in 2022. He also played in four Copa América finals, winning the last two, and retired from international football after the 2024 Copa América final.
