Angela Alsobrooks

Angela Alsobrooks, born on February twenty-third, nineteen seventy-one, is a distinguished American lawyer and politician who has made significant strides in Maryland's political landscape. Since two thousand twenty-five, she has served as the junior United States senator from Maryland, marking a historic moment as the state's first African-American senator and the third African-American woman to hold a seat in the U.S. Senate.

Raised in Prince George's County, Alsobrooks pursued her education at Duke University and the University of Maryland School of Law. Her career began in local law firms, where she honed her skills as an attorney. She later transitioned into public service, working as a domestic violence prosecutor and taking on various roles in county government under the administration of Jack B. Johnson.

Alsobrooks's political journey includes serving as the state's attorney for Prince George's County from two thousand eleven to two thousand eighteen, where she was elected twice, and as the county executive from two thousand eighteen to two thousand twenty-four. Notably, she was the first female and the first Black female county executive in Maryland's history, breaking barriers and paving the way for future leaders.

In two thousand twenty-four, she achieved a significant electoral victory by defeating former Republican governor Larry Hogan, further solidifying her position as a trailblazer in Maryland politics. As the second woman to represent Maryland in the Senate, following Barbara Mikulski, Alsobrooks continues to inspire and lead with a commitment to justice and equality.
