Angela Merici, born on March twenty-first, fourteen seventy-four, was a pioneering Italian Catholic religious educator. She is best known for founding the Company of St. Ursula in fifteen thirty-five in Brescia, an organization dedicated to the education of girls and the service of the church.
This innovative initiative laid the groundwork for the Order of Saint Ursula, whose nuns would go on to establish numerous centers of prayer and learning across Europe and, eventually, worldwide, including significant contributions in North America.
Following her passing, Angela Merici was venerated by Catholics globally, and her legacy continued to grow. A cause for her sainthood was initiated, culminating in her canonization by Pope Pius VII in eighteen oh seven, solidifying her impact on education and religious life.
