Gunn's football journey began at his hometown club, Norwich City, before he made a significant move to Manchester City in 2011. He signed his first professional contract with the club in 2013, marking the start of his professional career.
After a successful loan spell at Norwich during the 2017–18 season, Gunn transferred to Southampton in the summer of 2018 for a transfer fee of thirteen and a half million pounds. Following a stint in the Championship with Stoke City for the 2020–21 season, he returned to Norwich on a permanent basis after their promotion back to the Premier League.
