Anjali Nayar is a Canadian-Indian filmmaker whose diverse background includes a former career as a climate scientist. She is also the founder of TIMBY, a suite of innovative digital tools designed to empower activists in reporting and storytelling.
Nayar's latest feature film, Hack Your Health, which explores gut health and the microbiome, premiered on Netflix in April twenty twenty-four. The film quickly gained popularity, becoming a top ten Netflix film in seventy-seven countries worldwide.
Her previous works include the fantasy short film Closer, which won the Prism Prize audience award in twenty twenty-two, and Silas, which debuted at the Toronto International Film Festival in September twenty seventeen. Silas, executive produced by Ed Zwick and Leonardo DiCaprio, highlights activists in West Africa who utilize smartphones to combat land grabbing and corruption.
Nayar's feature directorial debut, Gun Runners, premiered at the Hot Docs Canadian International Documentary Festival in May twenty sixteen and was acquired by Netflix. This documentary follows two Kenyan warriors who exchange their AK-47s for marathon running.
In addition to her filmmaking, Nayar has contributed extensively to prominent media outlets such as Nature, Reuters, CBC News, BBC, and NPR. She holds a Master's degree in Documentary from Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism, a Master's in Environmental Management from Linacre College, University of Oxford, and a graduate degree in space science from the International Space University.
