Anna Chicherova

Anna Chicherova, born on July 22, 1982, is a distinguished high jumper representing Russia and Armenia. She achieved remarkable success in her athletic career, notably winning the gold medal at the 2012 London Olympics and the 2011 World Championships in Athletics. Initially awarded a bronze medal at the 2008 Summer Olympics, this accolade was later rescinded due to doping violations.

Chicherova's journey in athletics has been marked by both triumph and controversy. She was a runner-up at the World Championships in 2007 and 2013, and secured a bronze medal in 2015. However, her career faced significant challenges when a retest of samples from the 2008 Games revealed multiple positive findings for performance-enhancing drugs, including a confirmation of her doping violation by the IOC in October 2016.

Despite these setbacks, Chicherova made a notable return to competition in July 2018, jumping 1.90 meters at a national event. Following this performance, she sought permission from the IAAF to compete in the 2018 European Athletics Championships. In early 2019, she achieved impressive indoor jumps of 2.01 meters on two occasions, both of which equaled the Masters W35 World Record, although they were not recognized as such due to being indoors.

In September 2019, Chicherova, alongside fellow athlete Elena Lashmanova, faced challenges in gaining clearance for the IAAF World Athletics Championships, highlighting the ongoing complexities of her athletic career.
