Her musical journey began in her youth, studying at conservatories and performing locally before making her professional debut in Athens in nineteen seventy-three. There, she signed with Minos and collaborated with various artists while pursuing her studies at the University of Athens.
Vissi's rise to fame was marked by her victory at the Thessaloniki Song Festival in nineteen seventy-seven with the hit song 'As Kanoume Apopse Mian Arhi,' leading to the release of her debut album. Throughout the eighties, she formed a significant partnership with songwriter Nikos Karvelas, whom she married in nineteen eighty-three. This collaboration not only produced numerous hits but also established the CarVi label, which faced legal challenges before transitioning to CBS Records Greece, now known as Sony Music Greece.
