Anne Leahy

Anne Leahy, born on November eighteenth, nineteen fifty-two, in Quebec City, Quebec, is a distinguished Canadian educator and former diplomat. She holds a Bachelor of Arts in economics from Queen's University and a Master of Arts in economics from the University of Toronto, which laid the foundation for her impactful career in international relations.

Leahy's diplomatic journey began with her posting to the Mission of Canada to the European Community in Brussels from nineteen seventy-four to nineteen seventy-six. She then served as Counsellor and Representative to the Development Assistance Committee for the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development in Paris from nineteen eighty-two to nineteen eighty-six. Her notable roles continued as she became the ambassador to Cameroon, Chad, and the Central African Republic from nineteen eighty-nine to nineteen ninety-two, followed by her ambassadorship to Poland from nineteen ninety-three to nineteen ninety-six, and subsequently to Russia, Armenia, Uzbekistan, and Belarus until nineteen ninety-nine.

In addition to her ambassadorial roles, Leahy was the Federal Coordinator for World Youth Day two thousand two and served as ambassador to the Great Lakes Region of Africa from two thousand four to two thousand seven. She co-chaired the Group of Friends of the Great Lakes of the International Conference for Peace, Stability, and Development in the Great Lakes Region, showcasing her commitment to fostering peace and development.

After her retirement from diplomatic service, she was appointed as the Papal Transition Coordinator for Canada's Department of Foreign Affairs in two thousand thirteen. Leahy also contributed to academia as a diplomat in residence at York University from nineteen ninety-nine to two thousand, and she became the founding director of the Institut d'études internationales de Montréal at the Université du Québec à Montréal in two thousand two. Currently, she serves as an adjunct professor at the School of Religious Studies at McGill University, continuing to influence the next generation of leaders.
