Anne Neville

Personal Facts, Age, Height and Biography of Anne Neville

Anne Neville, born on June eleventh, fourteen fifty-six, was a significant figure in English history, serving as Queen of England from June twenty-six, fourteen eighty-three, until her untimely death in March fourteen eighty-five. As the wife of King Richard III, she played a pivotal role during a tumultuous period marked by the Wars of the Roses, a series of civil wars for control of the English throne.

Anne was the younger daughter and co-heiress of Richard Neville, the sixteenth Earl of Warwick, known as the 'Kingmaker,' and Anne de Beauchamp. Her early life was shaped by her father's ambitions, as he betrothed her to Edward of Westminster, the only son of the deposed King Henry VI and Margaret of Anjou, in an effort to forge an alliance with the Lancastrians.

Following the death of Prince Edward and the Lancastrian defeat at the Battle of Tewkesbury in fourteen seventy-one, Anne's fortunes changed dramatically. She married Richard, Duke of Gloucester, who was not only her first cousin once removed but also the younger brother of King Edward IV. Their union solidified her position within the powerful House of Neville.

Anne's ascension to the role of queen came after Richard claimed the throne, declaring the legitimacy of Edward IV's children null. Tragically, her reign was short-lived, as she passed away just five months before her husband. The couple had one child, Edward of Middleham, who died at the tender age of seven in fourteen eighty-four.
