A British singer, songwriter, and visual artist, Anohni Hegarty, known simply as ANOHNI, has made a significant impact on the music and art scenes from her bases in New York City and Ireland. Formerly known as Antony Hegarty, she first gained recognition as the lead singer of the band Anohni and the Johnsons, which was initially called Antony and the Johnsons. The ensemble's self-titled debut album was released in two thousand on David Tibet's label, Durtro.

Her second album, I Am a Bird Now, released in two thousand five, marked a turning point in her career, achieving both commercial success and critical acclaim. This album earned her the prestigious Mercury Music Prize, solidifying her status as a prominent figure in contemporary music.

In two thousand sixteen, Anohni made history as the first openly transgender performer to receive an Academy Award nomination, recognized for her work on the song 'Manta Ray' from the film Racing Extinction.
