Ante Gotovina, born on October twelfth, nineteen fifty-five, is a distinguished Croatian retired lieutenant general and former French senior corporal. He is best known for his significant contributions during the Croatian War for Independence, particularly his leadership in the pivotal 1995 Operation Storm.

His military career took a dramatic turn in two thousand one when the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia (ICTY) indicted him on charges of war crimes and crimes against humanity related to his actions during Operation Storm and its aftermath. Following this indictment, Gotovina spent four years in hiding before being apprehended in the Canary Islands in December two thousand five.

On April fifteenth, two thousand eleven, Gotovina was found guilty on eight of the nine counts against him, resulting in a twenty-four-year prison sentence. However, in a remarkable turn of events, his convictions were overturned by an appeals panel at the ICTY on November sixteenth, two thousand twelve, leading to his release from custody.
