Anthemius of Tralles

Anthemius of Tralles, born in the year four hundred seventy-four, was a remarkable figure in the Byzantine Empire, renowned for his multifaceted talents as a mathematician, physicist, architect, engineer, and sculptor. His contributions to the fields of geometry and architecture were particularly significant, as he played a pivotal role in shaping the architectural landscape of Constantinople, the empire's illustrious capital.

Collaborating with Isidore of Miletus, Anthemius co-designed the magnificent Hagia Sophia under the patronage of Emperor Justinian I. This iconic structure not only exemplified the zenith of Byzantine architecture but also showcased the innovative engineering techniques that Anthemius mastered throughout his career.
