Anthony Braxton, born on June 4, 1945, is a distinguished American experimental composer, educator, and multi-instrumentalist, renowned for his mastery of the saxophone, particularly the alto sax. Growing up on the South Side of Chicago, he became a pivotal figure in the Association for the Advancement of Creative Musicians, contributing significantly to the evolution of jazz and contemporary music.

His groundbreaking 1969 double-LP record, For Alto, marked a significant milestone as the first full-length album dedicated to solo saxophone music, earning him widespread acclaim.
