Antonio Tavaris Brown Sr., born on July 10, 1988, is a former professional American football wide receiver who made a significant impact in the National Football League (NFL) over a twelve-season career. Known by his nickname 'AB', Brown's journey began at Central Michigan University, where he showcased his talent as a punt returner, earning first-team All-American honors twice. His exceptional skills led to his selection by the Pittsburgh Steelers in the sixth round of the 2010 NFL Draft.
During his nine seasons with the Steelers, Brown established himself as one of the premier receivers of his generation. He led the league in receiving yards and receptions on multiple occasions and was recognized with seven Pro Bowl selections, including six consecutive years. His accolades also include four consecutive first-team All-Pro selections, underscoring his dominance on the field.
However, Brown's career was not without its challenges. Following a tumultuous relationship with the Steelers, he was traded to the Oakland Raiders in 2019 but was released before the season commenced due to a series of off-field controversies. He briefly joined the New England Patriots, where he played in just one game before being released amid a sexual assault investigation.
In a surprising turn, Brown returned to the NFL in the 2020 season with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, contributing to the team's victory in Super Bowl LV. Yet, his time with the Buccaneers ended abruptly when he left the field during a game, leading to his release. After retiring from professional football, Brown took on a new role as the majority owner of the Albany Empire in the National Arena League in 2023, although the team folded the same year.
