Antonio de Mendoza

Antonio de Mendoza, born in Alcalá la Real, Jaén, Spain, in the year fourteen ninety-four, was a prominent figure in the Spanish colonial administration. He was the son of Íñigo López de Mendoza y Quiñones, the 2nd Count of Tendilla, and Francisca Pacheco. His noble lineage set the stage for a life dedicated to public service and exploration.

As the first viceroy of New Spain, Mendoza served from the fourteenth of November, fifteen thirty-five, until the twenty-fifth of November, fifteen fifty. His leadership marked a significant period in the development of the Spanish colonies, where he implemented various reforms and policies that shaped the region's governance.

Following his tenure in New Spain, Mendoza became the second viceroy of Peru, beginning his service on the twenty-third of September, fifteen fifty-one. His administration continued until his death on the twenty-first of July, fifteen fifty-two, leaving a lasting impact on the territories he governed.

In his personal life, Mendoza was married to María Ana de Trujillo de Mendoza, further intertwining his legacy with the noble families of Spain. His contributions as a diplomat, military officer, knight, politician, and explorer are remembered as pivotal in the history of Spanish colonial rule.
