Antonio Farnese

In seventeen twenty-seven, Antonio entered into matrimony with Enrichetta d'Este of Modena, a union aimed at securing a successor to the ducal throne. Despite their hopes, the marriage did not yield any heirs, leaving the future of the duchy uncertain.

Following Antonio's childless marriage, the succession passed to Charles of Spain, whose mother, Elisabeth Farnese, was Antonio's niece. This transition underscored the intricate web of familial ties that characterized the European aristocracy of the time.
