His work often reflected a dynamic interplay between conservative and liberal ideologies, aligning himself with prominent literary figures such as Belinsky, Nikolay Nekrasov, and Ivan Turgenev during his liberal phases, while gravitating towards Fyodor Dostoyevsky in his conservative periods.
