Arayik Harutyunyan

Arayik Harutyunyan, born on December fourteenth, nineteen seventy-three, is a prominent Armenian politician who held the esteemed position of the fourth president of the Republic of Artsakh from May twenty twenty to September twenty twenty-three. His political journey began under the leadership of Bako Sahakyan, where he served as the sixth and final Prime Minister from two thousand seven until the position was abolished in two thousand seventeen.

Following his tenure as Prime Minister, Harutyunyan became the first State Minister of the Republic of Artsakh, a role he occupied until his resignation in two thousand eighteen. His leadership was notably tested during the 2020 Nagorno-Karabakh War against Azerbaijan, a conflict that resulted in significant territorial losses for Artsakh.

On September first, twenty twenty-three, amidst the Azerbaijani blockade of Nagorno-Karabakh, Harutyunyan resigned from the presidency. His political career took another turn on October third, twenty twenty-three, when he, along with two former presidents of Artsakh and a former president of the National Assembly, was detained by the State Security Service of Azerbaijan and taken to Baku.
