Archduchess Louise of Austria

Personal Facts, Age, Height and Biography of Archduchess Louise of Austria

Archduchess Louise of Austria, born on December second, eighteen seventy, was the second daughter of Ferdinand IV, Grand Duke of Tuscany, and the Crown Princess of Saxony. Her early life in Salzburg was marked by a relatively informal upbringing, a stark contrast to the rigid expectations she would later face as a member of the Saxon royal family.

At the age of seventeen, Louise began to attract suitors, ultimately choosing to marry Crown Prince Frederick Augustus of Saxony in eighteen ninety-one. Upon her arrival in Dresden, she quickly found herself at odds with the strict court protocols, leading to tensions with her Wettin in-laws. Despite these challenges, she endeared herself to the Saxon people by giving birth to six children.

However, her marriage was fraught with unhappiness, prompting Louise to engage in numerous affairs. This tumultuous period culminated in a dramatic escape to Lake Geneva while pregnant with her seventh child, Anna Monika Pia, an act that severely tarnished the reputation of the devout Catholic Saxon royal family. In nineteen hundred and three, her father-in-law dissolved her marriage, and she was subsequently barred from returning to Saxony.

Following her separation, Louise lived with her lover and gave birth to a daughter, who was officially recognized as the child of Frederick. In nineteen hundred and seven, she married Italian musician Enrico Toselli, but this union produced only one child and ended in divorce by nineteen twelve. Afterward, she relied on the charity of her wealthy Habsburg relatives until the collapse of Austria-Hungary in nineteen eighteen left her in poverty. Louise ultimately passed away in nineteen forty-seven, having taken on the humble role of a flower seller.
