Arkady Dvorkovich, born on March twenty-six, nineteen seventy-two, is a prominent Russian economist and politician, currently holding the esteemed position of president of the International Chess Federation, FIDE. His political career includes serving as Deputy Prime Minister in Dmitry Medvedev's Cabinet from May twenty-one, two thousand twelve, until May seven, two thousand eighteen, and as an Assistant to the President of the Russian Federation from May two thousand eight to May two thousand twelve.
Recognized as a close confidant of Dmitry Medvedev, Dvorkovich has played a significant role in Russian politics, particularly during Medvedev's presidency. His influence, however, faced challenges with the rise of Igor Sechin. From two thousand eighteen to two thousand twenty-two, he chaired the Skolkovo Foundation, and prior to that, he was the chairman of the Board of Directors at Russian Railways from two thousand fifteen to two thousand eighteen.
Born into a family with a rich chess heritage, Dvorkovich's father, Vladimir Dvorkovich, was an international chess arbiter. This background has undoubtedly shaped his involvement in the chess community, where he has served as an official of the Russian Chess Federation. In October two thousand eighteen, he was first elected as president of FIDE, succeeding Kirsan Ilyumzhinov, and he successfully secured a second term during the elections held at the forty-fourth Chess Olympiad in Mamallapuram, India, on August seven, two thousand twenty-two.
