Arlindo Gomes Furtado

Arlindo Gomes Furtado, born on November fifteenth, nineteen forty-nine, is a distinguished Cape Verdean Catholic prelate. He has made significant contributions to the Catholic Church, serving as the Bishop of Santiago de Cabo Verde from two thousand nine until two thousand twenty-six. His leadership was previously marked by his role as the first Bishop of Mindelo from two thousand four to two thousand nine.

Furtado's academic journey took him to Coimbra, Portugal, where he dedicated several years to his studies in preparation for ordination. Following his ordination, he continued to share his knowledge as a professor in the same city, enriching the lives of many students.

In a historic moment for Cape Verde, Pope Francis elevated him to the rank of cardinal in two thousand fifteen, making him the first individual from Cape Verde to receive this honor.
