Arsinoe IV

Arsinoe IV, born in sixty-eight BC, was the youngest daughter of Ptolemy XII Auletes and a significant figure in the waning days of the Ptolemaic dynasty. As a queen regnant, she claimed the title of Queen of Ptolemaic Egypt and engaged in a power struggle for co-rulership with her brother Ptolemy XIII during the tumultuous years of forty-eight to forty-seven BC, opposing her sister Cleopatra VII.

Her ambition led her to play a pivotal role in the siege of Alexandria in forty-seven BC, a conflict that ultimately resulted in her capture. Following the defeat of Ptolemy XIII at the Battle of the Nile, Arsinoe was taken as a prisoner of war to Rome by the Roman triumvir Julius Caesar.

In Rome, Arsinoe was exiled to the Temple of Artemis at Ephesus in Roman Anatolia. However, her fate took a tragic turn when she was executed in forty-one BC, following orders from triumvir Mark Antony, who acted at the behest of Cleopatra VII, her rival.
