Arthur Nebe

Arthur Nebe, born on November thirteenth, nineteen ninety-four, was a prominent figure in the security and police apparatus of Nazi Germany. Rising through the ranks of the Prussian police force, he became the head of the Criminal Police (Kriminalpolizei; Kripo) in nineteen thirty-six. This position was pivotal as it was later amalgamated into the Reich Security Main Office (RSHA) in nineteen thirty-nine, marking a significant step in his career.

In the lead-up to the German invasion of the Soviet Union in nineteen forty-one, Nebe volunteered to command Einsatzgruppe B, one of the notorious mobile death squads of the SS. This unit operated in the Army Group Centre Rear Area, primarily in what is now Belarus, and was responsible for the deaths of over forty-five thousand individuals by November of that year. His actions during this period solidified his role as a major perpetrator of the Holocaust.

After a brief return to Berlin in late nineteen forty-one, Nebe resumed his duties with the RSHA, continuing to command the Kripo until he was denounced and executed following the failed assassination attempt on Adolf Hitler in July nineteen forty-four. His involvement in the plot against Hitler has led to various interpretations of his legacy.

In the aftermath of the war, some surviving members of the July twentieth plot sought to portray Nebe as a dedicated anti-Nazi and a professional policeman. However, these accounts have been largely discredited by historians, who characterize him instead as an opportunist and a mass murderer, driven by a combination of racism and careerism.
