Arto Tunçboyacıyan, born on August fourth, nineteen fifty-seven, is a distinguished Armenian American composer, jazz musician, singer, and percussionist. Renowned for his avant-garde approach to folk and jazz, he leads the Armenian Navy Band and is a vital member of the instrumental quartet Night Ark.
Before making his mark in the United States, Tunçboyacıyan contributed to over two hundred records across Europe. His journey in the American music scene has seen him collaborate with a plethora of jazz legends, including Chet Baker, Marc Johnson, Al Di Meola, and Joe Zawinul. He has also shared the stage with Paul Winter and the Earth Band, showcasing his versatility and talent.
In addition to his jazz endeavors, Tunçboyacıyan has worked with notable artists such as Turkish singer Sezen Aksu and Greek vocalist Eleftheria Arvanitaki. His musical lineage is enriched by his elder brother, Onno Tunçboyacıyan, a fellow musician with whom he has collaborated on numerous occasions, further highlighting the family's deep-rooted connection to music.
