Arun Shourie

Arun Shourie, born on November second, nineteen forty-one, is a prominent Indian economist, journalist, writer, and politician. His career has spanned various roles, including serving as an economist with the World Bank and a consultant to the Planning Commission of India. Shourie also held the position of editor at notable newspapers such as the Indian Express and The Times of India, and he was a Minister of Communications and Information Technology in the Vajpayee Ministry from nineteen ninety-eight to two thousand four.

During the tumultuous Emergency period in India, Shourie distinguished himself through his investigative journalism, which boldly challenged the Indira Gandhi Government. His reporting exposed significant issues such as censorship, corruption, and human rights violations. His tenure as editor of the Indian Express, under the guidance of Ramnath Goenka, further solidified his reputation as a fearless journalist, earning him the Ramon Magsaysay Award in nineteen eighty-two and the Padma Bhushan in nineteen ninety.

In addition to these accolades, Shourie was recognized as the International Editor of the Year in nineteen eighty-two by World Press Review in New York. Throughout the nineties and early two thousands, he became known as a leading intellectual voice among Hindu nationalists, often engaging in controversial discussions surrounding Islam and Christianity, as well as critiquing left-wing ideologies.
