Ashikaga Yoshikatsu

Personal Facts, Age, Height and Biography of Ashikaga Yoshikatsu

Ashikaga Yoshikatsu, born on March nineteenth, one thousand four hundred thirty-four, was the seventh shōgun of the Ashikaga shogunate, reigning briefly from one thousand four hundred forty-two to one thousand four hundred forty-three during Japan's Muromachi period. He was the son of the sixth shōgun, Ashikaga Yoshinori, and his concubine, Hino Shigeko. Known in his childhood as Chiyachamaru, Yoshikatsu's life was marked by the tumultuous events surrounding his father's assassination.

In one thousand four hundred forty-one, Yoshinori was murdered at the age of forty-eight by Akamatsu Mitsusuke, leading to the unexpected ascension of his eight-year-old son, Yoshikatsu, as the new shōgun. His confirmation as shōgun came the following year, marking the beginning of a short-lived reign that would last only two years.

Tragically, on August sixteenth, one thousand four hundred forty-three, Yoshikatsu's life was cut short at the tender age of nine due to a fatal accident while horse riding. His untimely death led to his younger brother, Yoshinari, being named shōgun. Yoshinari would later change his name to Yoshimasa, becoming a more recognized figure in Japanese history.
