Ashleigh McIvor, born on September fifteenth, nineteen eighty-three, is a celebrated retired Canadian ski cross racer and alpine skier. Hailing from Whistler, she made history by winning the inaugural women’s ski cross gold medal at the twenty-ten Winter Olympics held in Vancouver. This remarkable achievement followed her triumph at the two thousand nine FIS World Championship, where she claimed the title of world champion.
After a successful career, McIvor announced her retirement in two thousand twelve, leaving the sport as the reigning Olympic champion. Her decision was influenced by recurring knee injuries, the tragic loss of close teammates in ski accidents earlier that year, and her desire to pursue a more balanced and fulfilling life beyond competitive skiing.
In her post-retirement years, McIvor has embraced various roles, including sports commentary, tourism promotion, and entrepreneurial ventures in endorsements and public speaking. She co-founded a youth sports charity and continues to serve as a global ambassador for skiing and outdoor sports, inspiring the next generation of athletes.
On a personal note, McIvor is married to Jay DeMerit, a former US International soccer player and captain of the Vancouver Whitecaps FC. Together, they have one son and reside in Whistler, British Columbia, where they enjoy the vibrant outdoor lifestyle.
