Ashley Hinson, born on June twenty-seventh, nineteen eighty-three, is a prominent American politician and journalist. She has been serving as the U.S. representative for Iowa's 2nd congressional district since twenty twenty-one, a role she assumed after winning the election against incumbent Democrat Abby Finkenauer. During her first term, she represented the district numbered as the 1st district, which encompasses much of northeastern Iowa, including key cities such as Cedar Rapids, Waterloo, Cedar Falls, and Dubuque.
A member of the Republican Party, Hinson made history as the first woman to represent the Iowa state representative for the sixty-seventh district from twenty seventeen to twenty twenty-one. Her victory in the twenty twenty election marked a significant milestone, as she, alongside Mariannette Miller-Meeks, became one of the first Republican women to serve Iowa in the House of Representatives.
In the subsequent elections, Hinson successfully secured her position by winning reelection in the newly redrawn 2nd district in twenty twenty-two and twenty twenty-four. Looking ahead, she is a candidate for the twenty twenty-six United States Senate election in Iowa, aiming to succeed the retiring Republican incumbent Joni Ernst.
